Perennial Seed Blends

Blend #1: Tug of War Alfalfa & Perennial Rye

A very simple, but efficient and palatable, perennial blend.  Tug of War Alfalfa (22% protein) is combined with Perennial Ryegrass to give lush and thick greenery from spring to fall (also available beneath snow).  Will produce everything from insects for birds to forage for deer.  Very versatile and very user-friendly, especially on a first-time planting.  Can also be planted to control perennial weeds!  Plant sping or fall; 8 ounces plants 650 sq. ft. comfortably.

Blend #2: Clover, Chicory & Alfalfa

This mix of Cinnamon Red Clover, Chicory and Alfalfa is an excellent for-anywhere blend.  It is designed to mimic the first greenery found along field edges just after snowmelt (analagous to native clovers and dandelions).  Regardless of wet or dry weather, low pH or other hindering environmental conditions, at least one of the three in this mix is sure to germinate and mature.  Incredibly successful perennial for New England soils, and very attractive to wildlife.  Plant sping or fall; 8 ounces comfortably plants 833 sq. ft.

Blend #3: Old Timer's Hayfield Blend

This blend of five seed types - Timothy, Hairy Vetch, Tug of War Alfalfa, Perennial Rye and Medium Red Clover - was concocted for those who want to recreate the lost hayfields of Vermont and New England.  In the last decade we've lost an incredible amount of family farms and the associated habitat.  This Hayfield Blend brings a "field" aspect to our garden-style micro-plot seed regime and helps to improve a near-lost niche.  Your birds, bees and bucks will love this blend.  8 ounces plants up to 650 sq. ft.

VT Blend #1: Red Clovers

Our red clover blend is a combination of three types of red clovers: Medium Red Clover, Mammoth Red Clover and Crimson Clover.  This blend germinates fast and grows quick and thick in cool weather.  It grows especially well in well-drained soils, and though it is shade tolerant it also prospers in sunny exposures.  Deep growing taproots in this blend draw essential nutrients from the soil making it incredible forage for deer for the 2-3 years that it persists.  Insects and bees love this blend as well, making it attractive to birds.  This universal blend prefers drier sites and will be loved by everyone from hunters implementing buck plots to tea-lovers harvesting blossoms for tea time! 8 ounces plants 800 - 1,000 sq. ft.

VT Blend #2:
 White/Yellow Clovers

Like our red clover blend, our white clover blend is also a blend of three clovers: Alice White Clover, New Zealand White Clover and Yellow Sweet Clover.  This long-lived, hardy, self-propagating, nitrogen-fixing perennial provides excellent, high nutritive forage by drawing potassium and phosphorus from the subsoil with its thick taproots.  Bees and birds will love this perennial (persisting 5-6 years with maintenance), but it is especially favored by deer all through the growing season and beyond.  This blend grows well in wet environments where other blends struggle.  A choice blend given the high amount of rain the Northeast has!  A must-have for gardeners and food plotters alike.  8 ounces plants up to 833 sq. ft.

Blend #4:
 Bee & Pollinator Blend

A combination of several seeds found in our Birds & Bees Kit, our Bee & Pollinator Blend is ideal for creating or enhancing bee and insect habitat.  This perennial blend of Birdsfoot Trefoil, New Zealand White Clover, Yellow Blossom Clover and Yellow Sweet Clover will generate years of blossoms on a single planting.  And with Varroa mites and Colony Collapse Disorder substantially reducing bee populations across the country, creating or enhancing bee habitat is becoming more crucial every day!  This blend is prosperous in a wide variety of conditions, but does especially well in higher pH's and more wet soils.  8 ounces plants 833 sq. ft.
