Deer Kit #3
Seed Only - 18 "Flavors"
A modified verion of our Deer Kits #1 and #2, Kit #3 is seed only. It is a viable solution for people who want unmatched variety in a semi-micro area. Contained in this kit are six, 4-ounce flasks all mixed with the following 18 flavors of seed:
Waltham Broccoli, Groninger Brussel Sprouts, Brassica/Rape, Oregon Giant Snow Peas, Yellow Field Peas, Cowpeas, Austrian Winter Peas, Soybeans, Japanese Buckwheat, Medium Red Clover, Mammoth Red Clover, Crimson Clover, Tug of War Alfalfa, Hairy Vetch, Birdsfoot Trefoil, Alice White Clover, New Zealand White Clover and Yellow Sweet Clover
These assorted annuals and perennials provide all the necessary ingredients for one – or several - productive micro-plot(s). The total area this kit will plant is roughly 1,800 square feet. Each 4-ounce bottle can be expected to comfortably cover up to 300 square feet (some sites might dictate a “thicker” seed rate, others “thinner”). Though you can broadcast your annuals, it is recommended that they be planted in their own rows throughout the perennial “base”. Planting the annuals in rows allows you to better maintain the perennials (mowing, weeding, raking, etc.) and monitor how each blend germinated and matured. Planting your annuals in rows also allows the micro-plotter to more easily observe which blend the deer prefer at a given stage of development/growth and at what time of year.
As your plot(s) grows and matures pay close attention to which seed blends are most productive and grow best at that particular site. This will help to indicate what type(s) of soil you have and what seed blends you’ll need to plant more of in the future - some blends may prosper while others fail. Though this kit is not a substitue for a soil test (highly recommended) the variety it provides will tell you what grows best at a partiular site/location if a soil test was not taken.
Kits are available for purchase ($31.89 each) on our Products Page
Remember that Deer Kits make excellent gifts for birthdays or special occassions!
